Limited Edition Kits
Between 2000 and 2004, Thistle Threads collaborated with the Historic Needlework
Guild to produce a Limited Edition Kit for each year. Each kit was limited to a
production of 500 kits. A portion of the proceeds is given to an organization
which promotes historical embroidery. Previous grantees include the Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston to sponser the "Sampler A to Z exhibit" in 2000 and a second
grant to purchase conservation supplies for their new textiles storage area in
2002. Another grant was given to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts
to sponser the "Painted with Threads" exhibit in 2001.
Each kit includes instructions and finishing instructions, linen, silk threads,
and a portion of the finishing materials which may be required. A limited number
of the kits are now available under the Thistle Threads brand to complete the 500
kit limit for each design.

Joys Many and Sorrows Few Sewing Box
Limited Edition 2004
$110 kit
The project is a box that is inspired by a mid-nineteenth century sampler. It is
embroidered on four sides and the top with satin stitch and cross stitch over
one. The inside of the box has a cross-stitched narrow ribbon that helps keep
wooden threadwinders against the sides of the box. There is room for at least
six threadwinders. On the bottom, an area for your favorite tools and the top
contains a pincushion and needlekeep areas. I have had special walnut
threadwinders fabricated for this piece. One will be included in each kit.
You can fill the other spaces with other threadwinders in your collection or
some from our available styles.
The kit includes 32ct. linen, needle, stitchable ribbon, silk floss, Anchor floss, silk
lining fabric, ultrasuede, wool doctors cloth, the special acorn button, a walnut
threadwinder, instructions, and four color xeroxes showing the finishing in progress.
Items not included are 1/8" batt (Warm and Natural suggested), Cardboard, and Skirtex.
