![]() The delightful threadwinders above are the result of a continuing collaboration between Thistle Threads and Betsy Kreig Salm. Betsy is the only artist in the US who is practicing Schoolgirl Art from the early 19th century. Her work reinterprets the art form practiced by little girls in academies where sampler making was also taught. Often, the same motifs show up in the samplers and wood paintings from a particular school. The girls often progressed from small pieces such as threadwinders to needlework boxes and larger pieces of furniture, such as sewing tables. For a visual treat, see Betsy's web page at www.betsykreigsalm.com. We have joined forces with Miller Carpentry Creations to fabricate these 1 1/2" threadwinders from bird's eye maple inspired by antique pieces. Each piece is hand painted on the front with ink and watercolors then sealed to protect the artwork. Each piece is signed on the back by both artists and contains a phrase such as "May All Thinks Made With Your Hands, Show Your Heart". A limited number of threadwinders are available at the moment for $38 each. Please email for photos of the available stock.
